Do you need the 80s Model D sound in your production?
I had the chance to have a go at the MiniMoog Model D . I enjoyed making this patch specifically designed to be used as a Key Group Instrument. Although when actually making it, it wasn't polyphonic, making this into a keygroup instrument opens up the new dimension of playing chords. Having all the notes also allows to use different parts of the keyboard for different ideas. For example, the high notes as part of a chime sound and the low notes as part of a bass sound. Since this was specifically designed as a keygroup instrument, it already sounds good as it is & you can work these useful samples in infinite ways. One amazing thing is that the patch itself was made on a machine that didn't have expression of the keygroup instrument. When you play it on your piano or pads it will sound different based on key presses in ways the actual instrument couldn't. This is another advantage of using the Moog Model D - Thistle key group instrument.
Do you need unique, iconic , versatile , Model D sounds for your production ?
The Moog MiniMoog Model D Reissue, painstakingly built by hand in limited numbers, is an exacting recreation of the vintage Model D as used by countless artists since the early-1970s. This classic monophonic design features three oscillators and the iconic Moog Ladder filter. The Model D Reissue sounds just as monstrous as ever, and can now be thicker and further overdriven thanks to a slight modification to the mixer.
This is a synth stab instrument that can be used in any kind of music
This is a really expressive sound with a really nostalgic vibe that does really well at lower octaves as an organ or electric piano style instrument and higher octaves for as an arcade style sound. I use this keygroup to play chords to a lofi track. This variation has an attack component, unique in that you can play chords unlike in the actual Model D instrument or use the very highest notes as part of an organ even. This is a one layer key group instrument sampled from C0 to G8 with individual notes. This is the kind of instrument you can use as a brass stack or even as a bass melody. This is 105 high quality samples plus the .XPM keygroup file for 106 MB total. Minimum amount is $1.50 for this you get one keygroup instrument . But really you should get the full pack for pennies per instrument instead. A Free Sample Pack with one note each including this Moog Model D - Thistle key group instrument is available for testing. This is a versatile horn instrument that is designed to be a house and pop music go to !
Someone asked me to provide patches of famous synths too, as feedback on the GrandStage. I got lots of great feedback from the Grandstage Piano instrument which was much appreciated. In general , I do not have the capacity to deal with paperwork, refunds, or technical inquiries. However, I'll try to answer as many questions as possible by email, reddit and facebook. Configuration Instructions
Nothing is more simple than getting started with the Thistle Instrument.
- Unzip / uncompress the .zip file into your music folder. For standalone controllers be sure to add it to your external hard drive or usb drive.
- Open an empty project in your DAW or standalone controller
- Navigate to your uncompressed folder and drag and drop the .xpm file directly into your DAW or open/load the .xpm file to load it into your track.
- It's ready to play !
For more advanced Users :
- Navigate to your keygroup instrument interface
- Increase "decay" and tune "sustain" to taste.
How To Play
This instrument is particularly well suited for the Akai Family controllers but it will work with any controller and DAW. To use it unzip the file into your multisampled instruments folder. Open the .xpm in your DAW or on your standalone controller. To play this instrument I do recommend using a sustain pedal.
For example in my set up on the Akai Force, I plug in my Arturia Keystep using USB, open an empty project, then load the *.xpm directly. Plugged into the Arturia is a sustain pedal. on the I/O page of the mixer i select Midi In from Arturia KeyStep with setting 'MERGE'. Then, I alternate between light and hard presses on the pedal as I play the pads.
Other ways you can use this pack include taking and individual note and creating a keygroup instrument with it, for example G6 (shift+edit). Remember : each layer sounds completely different so select the one you might like the most if you do this.
You might also want to remove samples to save space, for example Layer 4.
